” All of you have been so kind and inspiring!! Thank you for making my Wednesdays so special, whether in the workshops or on the journeys back home to drop off the kids. It was great learning from and working with you all.” (Volunteer, 2025)

Volunteer mentors are the life blood of Theatre Troupe. They come from a range of different backgrounds, including from the community, in the arts or mental health. Many have lived experience of mental distress or neurodivergence/neurodiversity. We also work with undergraduate and post-graduate students from arts, mental health, social care and education backgrounds, both through formal placements, and for work development and experience. We provide specialist training in our methods, and advanced safeguarding training.
Being a volunteer mentor, means you work one-to-one with a child in the workshop setting, supporting their emotions and behaviour, and working alongside them to create art work. In our community programmes (usually), the intervention extends to offering travel assistance for your child from school/home to the workshop and home after the workshop. This deepens the relationship and often allows positive engagement with parents.
Each of our programmes models an alternative family, and our team reflects this. So far, our youngest member is 18 and our oldest is 78. But we’re more than happy to extend the upper age limit!
We are currently recruiting for our East London Youth Troupe, which will be held on Wednesdays, 3.30-6.30pm from January 2026 at Queen Mary University London. Please get in touch if you’re interested in volunteering with us:
